One thing that all couples planning their big (or small!) day should remember is that their day is and should be as unique as they are. That is why I’ve thoroughly enjoyed shooting weddings at Larkbeare House in Exeter. This is one of those stunning venues which allows you to customise the look and feel of your wedding to suit you. I would strongly advise going to see it yourselves in order to truly appreciate all that it has to offer.

Larkbeare House: The Venue

Easy to travel to via the M5, other major car routes and being close to the Exeter town centre, this venue could not be better placed. A decent amount of parking makes it easy for those travelling in for the ceremony to get parked. Despite being so close to the hustle and bustle of Exeter Larkbeare House offers a secluded area which is perfect for your civil ceremony. The grounds are truly beautiful and the incredibly elegant Killerton Room (see below) allows you to sit up to sixty guests.

So Many Excellent Venue Choices

Realising that everyone wants something different from their special day, this beautiful venue offers their couples a number of options.

  • If you are looking to get married at Larkbeare House yet have plans for your reception elsewhere, you may choose to book an hour for your ceremony and registrars will be included in this booking.
  • You may wish to enjoy a three-hour slot, enjoying the ceremony (their registrars will be on hand to see you joined) and having the use of the Knightshayes Room, Killerton Room and the delightful grounds.
  • If you are looking for something a little different you may want to look at The Boatshed. A humble name indeed, this fully licenced area overlooks Exeter Quay and offer a stunningly beautiful venue for your civil ceremony. Offering twenty sitting guests and ten standing (not including the happy couple and the registrars), The Boatshed offers an intimate setting that could be just what you are looking for. Seeing as this is the UK, the ever-thoughtful staff will move the ceremony to the Killerton Room if the weather decides not to behave.

Larkbeare House: My Experience

This venue is not a one hundred room deluxe state-of-the-art hotel venue. Neither is it a sprawling medieval castle set in well-manicured grounds and maintained by estate staff. This is not necessarily a bad thing. One of my favourite things about working as a wedding photographer is that no two weddings are exactly alike. There is a vast amount of choice when it comes to customising your special day. From the venue type, size and location to themes, colour choices and much more besides that.

Excellent Staff Offer Ultimate Customisation

Larkbeare House offers couples a number of civil ceremony options. This means you may choose what best suits you and make your magical day your own. I personally found this venue to be a stunning place to host a wedding, and incredibly photogenic. The warm, friendly and competent staff are incredibly skilled. They are used to lowering stress levels, soothing over worries and helping you experience a truly bespoke wedding in this hidden Exeter gem of a venue. I would love to shoot another wedding or alternative event there.
